Travel Safely Campaign
|
Many of us love to take our horses
and ponies to new places, whether competing or hacking or going to the
vet's, stud or even a new home.
But how much attention do we pay
to the transport we put them in ? and how we drive? how other people
drive?
Several organisations have joined
together for an one-stop event where you can find out about
how to
"Travel Safely" (and legally!) with your horse
From police checks to passports to
repairs to loading and driver training - it is all here! |

The Equine Centre development has been designed to provide
modern teaching facilities for equine students, and includes 70
stables, and an indoor arena, three outdoor arenas, horse walker,
grass rides and cross country schooling fences.
The Equine Centre
at Sparsholt College has been included within London 2012's
Pre-Olympic Games Training Camp Guide.
Praised for
its training of practical, instructional staff and stable
managers, the British Horse Society-approved Equine Centre at
Sparsholt College has become a regular venue for shows, dressage
events and training hire, so popular are its facilities.

Lynn Chapman, Zoe
Chipman and Sarah Weston are all Recommended Associates of
Intelligent Horsemanship in the local area and they will be
demonstrating loading techniques as well as having a stand at
the event.
Good loading
techniques are particularly relevant to travelling horses safely
as a quiet, calm manner and plenty of practise means that the
horse is less likely to be worried about travelling.

Our Animal
Health officers regularly visit farms, abattoirs, and transit
points to check that the health of livestock is maintained.
Livestock movements are checked and monitored so that animals
can be quickly traced in the event of an outbreak of serious
notifiable disease, such as foot and mouth or swine fever. We
also inspect animal feed producers and test the quality of
fertilisers and feeding stuffs.
Our
information stand will be manned by officers from the Animal
Health Section who can answer your questions regarding the
movement of livestock, welfare of animals act, transportation
and horse passports. Numerous leaflets will be available.

The uniquely specialist equine
division of PRP Rescue Services
is being recognised in the new “Emergency Services Protocol”
that is being developed jointly by the British Equine Veterinary
Association (BEVA) and the Highways Agency. Whilst this
initiative is still in its’ infancy, it will ultimately become
the actionable protocol of choice for all emergency incidents
(police, fire, ambulance etc.) involving highways and livestock
with PRP Rescue Services as the sole livestock emergency
provider:
Accidents, stray animals and
other incidents can often shut major roads for hours, proving to
be costly for not just those immediately involved, but also
those caught up in the after effects. It is our belief that all
incidents involving livestock should be overseen

All Horse boxes are required by Law to display
stickers to describe the load they are carrying, eg. Horses,
Cattle, Livestock and labels to show the liquid carried such as
fuel, water, gas etc. We supply label packs of your choice. We
also produce Postcode Letters and Numbers for trailers and
caravans to reduce the chances of successful theft.
We are
your one stop shop for all agricultural and equestrian safety
signs. Following many visits to farms and equestrian businesses,
and in conjunction with officers from the Hampshire Fire and
Rescue Services who share our vision to protect agricultural
establishments from the devastating effects of fire and
potential loss of lives, livestock and livelihoods, we have
developed and produced what we believe to be a comprehensive
catalogue of safety signs and equipment to help the rural
business operator. The Fire and Emergency Information Box is an
essential item for all rural businesses to assist the Rescue
Services and reduce the dangers for all.
